Spring Cleaning!

The weather is getting warmer.  Finally!  With spring comes one of my favorite times, spring cleaning. Some might think that spring cleaning is an overwhelming task but fear not!  We have made an easy checklist for you to go over so that you can tackle this chore easily.

First as a reminder, spring cleaning is beneficial to your overall health and wellbeing.  It pushes you to look through what you have and need and to offload things that you might not use.  It’s a time to clean and dust off things but to also clean your soul.

To start with spring cleaning, start with a room at a time.  Start with your kitchen, for example.  Within that room, you will want to start from the top and work your way to the bottom wiping down lamps, fans, picture frames, and any surface with a dust towel.  Don’t forget any floorboards as well!  You will also want to make sure you wipe down any blinds or wash any curtains in hot water (it helps kill the dust mites). When it comes to the floor, don’t forget to clean under tables, to wipe down chairs and to dust in corners.

Next, for any room, go through your drawers and items on top of counters/shelves. When you think about changing out clothes for example (or seasonal towels or arrangements), only keep what you think you will use and get rid of anything that hasn’t been used in years.  Same goes for cleaning out clothes.  If you haven’t worn it in a year, put it in a “give away” bag.  If you don’t miss it a few months later, it’s better in the hands of someone else.

Third, try to get your family involved!  Give each family member a task to help complete during spring cleaning.  For example one person and wipe off surfaces, one person can clean the floor and floorboards, one person can be in charge of curtains or linens, and one person in charge of cleaning out drawers.  The task will go much faster and the while family will have a sense of accomplishment.

Next, use the right products when you clean.  There are so many types of cleaners, dusters, dust cloths, vacuums, etc. on the market and truly you need to find one that is right (and smells right!) for you.  One more natural cleaner many use is white vinegar.  I use it and love it, myself.  You can mix 1/3 parts vinegar with 2/3 parts distilled water (and a few drops of your favorite essential oil) and you have a great solution to clean with.

Lastly, take it one step at a time.  Depending on your house size, spring cleaning might take more than one day.  If you take your home a room at a time and thoroughly clean top to bottom (and in between!), you will be pleased with the results that can last the whole summer!

We hope that you enjoy the spring!  Also, don’t forget to spring “clean” your body!  Make sure you are up to date on all immunizations and if you are not, or if you ever have any questions regarding your health, please come in and see us.
